Northern Lights chasing is not about driving to the same viewpoint every evening. Clouds, wind and local weather can vary dramatically across Senja, and conditions can change throughout the night.
Before we leave, we study the latest weather information and current conditions. From there, local knowledge helps determine which direction gives us the best available opportunity for clear skies.
Some nights may take us towards the coast, others into fjords, valleys or more sheltered areas. The destination is not the goal — the sky is.

Clear Sky Comes First
Aurora activity matters, but you cannot see the Northern Lights through thick cloud. That is why weather plays such an important role in every chase.
We use forecasts and current conditions to identify the most promising areas, then combine that information with local knowledge of Senja’s terrain and weather patterns.
There are never guarantees with a natural phenomenon, but being able to move gives us another option when the sky above the resort is cloudy.
We Can Chase Clear Skies. We Cannot Control the Aurora.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and no tour operator can guarantee that they will appear. What we can do is understand the weather, use local knowledge, stay flexible and put ourselves in the best available position to experience them when nature decides to perform.
Northern Lights Photography
Photographing the Northern Lights can be challenging if you have never done it before. During the tour, we can help you understand the basic camera settings needed to photograph the aurora and make the most of the conditions.
But remember to look away from the screen too. Some moments are better experienced with your own eyes.
Not Every Aurora Night Needs a Chase
Aurora Borealis Observatory is already surrounded by dark Arctic skies with virtually no light pollution. When the sky above the resort is clear, the Northern Lights can appear directly overhead. The Aurora Chase gives us another option when local cloud cover makes travelling in search of clearer skies worthwhile.
