The Aurora Borealis Observatory Experience

You Are Already Where You Need to Be

Many Northern Lights holidays are built around leaving a city in the evening and driving into the darkness for a few hours. An Aurora Borealis holiday at our observatory is different: the experience begins the moment you arrive.

Our location on Senja is surrounded by dark Arctic skies with virtually no light pollution. When conditions are right, the Northern Lights can appear directly above the resort — outside your apartment, above the surrounding landscape and sometimes right outside your window.

There is no need to return to city lights when the evening is over. You live beneath the Arctic sky for your entire stay.

Watch the Northern Lights From Your Room

Every apartment at Aurora Borealis Observatory has large windows with views towards the aurora sky. That means waiting for the aurora does not have to mean standing outside in the cold for hours.

Turn off the lights, get comfortable and keep an eye on the sky from inside. When the Northern Lights appear, simply step outside and experience them beneath the open Arctic sky.

Stay warm. Watch the sky. Step outside when it begins. Your accommodation is part of the Northern Lights experience — not simply somewhere to sleep afterwards.

When the sky above the resort is clear, one of the best things you can do is simply stay here and watch. There is no fixed viewing time and no need to leave when a tour ends. The aurora can appear, disappear and return throughout the night — and you are already beneath the sky when it happens.

The Rhythm of Your Holiday

Senja by Day. Northern Lights by Night.

Your Aurora Borealis holiday does not have to begin when darkness arrives. Senja gives you something extraordinary to experience on both sides of sunset.

More Than the Northern Lights

Discover Senja Between the Nights

The Northern Lights may be the reason you travel north, but an Aurora Borealis holiday on Senja offers much more than an evening beneath the stars.

Mountains rise directly from the sea. Deep fjords cut through the landscape. Arctic beaches, winding coastal roads and small fishing villages create some of the most memorable scenery in Northern Norway.

Our guided daytime tours allow you to discover more of the island during your stay, with routes adapted to the season, weather and conditions.
